Gillette survives penalties, beats Yellowstone, 5-1

The Yellowstone Quake failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Gillette Wild shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-1.

Gillette was led by Bryce Mitzel, who tallied one goal and one assist. Mitzel scored 11:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Gillette. Will Fobair provided the assist.

The Wild forced Yellowstone goalie Sean Leahy to work between the pipes, taking 60 shots.

Gillette additionally got points from Fobair, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Dalton McCann, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, and Alex King, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Gillette received assists from Chase Engdahl, Greg Sauers, Nick Mead, Shane Brown, and Tj McMinn, who contributed one a piece.

The Quake put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Gillette to score on any of its three power plays.

Yellowstone was led by TJay Lozier, who scored the team's only goal. Lozier scored on the power play 7:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Yellowstone. The Quake had gotten the advantage when the Wild's Brown was sent off for holding. Sawyer Scanlan assisted on the tally.

Michael Kitts recorded 23 saves for Gillette. The Wild incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Yellowstone's Leahy stopped 55 shots out of the 60 that he faced. The Quake incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
