Phillips' big game bests Glacier in 6-5 Billings win

Behind a great game by Cody Phillips, who had two goals and two assists, the Billings Bulls defeated Glacier, 6-5.

Phillips' tallies came at 4:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Billings and 7:11 into the third to make the score 6-4 Billings.

Billings led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Bulls' Tristen Heinrichs's scored at 19:05 in the first period to put Billings up 5-2.

The Bulls forced Glacier's goalies to work all game long, firing 48 shots and forcing 42 saves. Ethan Wiese made 29 stops and Pierre Gustafsson made 13. Billings surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Bulls average 3.2 goals per contest. Billings' penalty kill unit could not stop Glacier's power play, which converted on four of six opportunities.

Billings additionally got points from Torin Foundos, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Heinrichs, who also had one goal and one assist. Billings also had goals scored by Ralfs Karelis and T J Theodosopoulos, who scored one goal each. In addition, Billings received assists from Dexter Nealy, who had two and Sam Orth and Bryce Jensen, who each chipped in one.

Glacier made the Bulls' goaltenders to work in net, ripping 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Isaac Tjaden made 22 stops and Daniel Oordt made eight.

Glacier was helped by Chris Cutshall, who finished with two goals and one assist. Cutshall scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:13 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Glacier earned a power play opportunity when Steven Thompson was put in the box for slashing. Austin Givens picked up the assist. Cutshall's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Billings with 11:23 left in the second period. An interference penalty on Nealy had put Glacier on the power play. Givens assisted on the tally. Glacier also got points from Tyler Latimer, who also registered one goal and one assist and Danny Roe, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Padraic Ripple also scored for Glacier. Other players who recorded assists for Glacier were Tucker Spooner, who had two.

Billings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Glacier incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
