Mese lifts Great Falls over Yellowstone, 6-3

The Great Falls Americans relied on the scoring touch of Zachary Mese, who netted two goals, to beat the Yellowstone Quake, 6-3.

Mese found the back of the net 33 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Great Falls and again while 6:02 into the third to make the score 5-3 Great Falls.

Great Falls pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

The Americans' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Yellowstone power plays. Great Falls kept Yellowstone's goalie busy throughout the game, and Rocco Yapello made 56 saves on 62 shots.

Great Falls additionally got points from Erik Gatson, who also had one goal and one assist, Brady Christiaens, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Aaron McInnis, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Lucas Lomax also scored for Great Falls. More assists for Great Falls came via Cody Page, who had two and Steven Goran and Donovan Mattfeldt, who each chipped in one.

The Quake's offense rang up 38 shots on the Americans' net.

Yellowstone was helped by Mike McCullen, who racked up one goal. McCullen scored 12:39 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Sawyer Scanlan provided the assist. Yellowstone also got points from Scanlan, who also had one goal and one assist. Yellowstone also got a goal from Josh Neumann as well. In addition, Yellowstone received assists from Cameron Hardiak, who had two and James Pyle, Ross Mullen, and Jimmy Tich, who contributed one a piece.

Great Falls' Erik Powell stopped 35 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Americans registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Quake incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
