Early goals doom Glacier, falls to Helena, 13-1Stumptown Ice Den Sat, Nov 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
A five-goal first period deficit cost Glacier, which could not recover and fell to the Helena Bighorns, 13-1. Helena got the win with help from a great game by Damon Hanson, who had one goal and two assists. Hanson scored 9:59 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Helena. Austin Loes picked up the assist. Glacier's power play was ineffective against the Bighorns' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Helena forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Bighorns had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Helena forced Glacier's netminders to work without much rest, totaling 72 shots and forcing 59 saves. The total exceeded the 32.0 minutes per game Glacier had been spending in the box. Glacier was held below its usual level of production. Glacier puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. Glacier struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Helena to score six power play goals on 11 chances. Karson Frisk also scored for Glacier. More assists for Glacier came via Tanner Dodd and Adam Dalton, who each chipped in one. Austin Brihn rejected 17 shots on goal for the Bighorns. For Helena, Hansson was ejected from the game. Team's Frisk and Padraic Ripple were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
