Helena outlasts Billings, 5-3Centennial Ice Garden Fri, Nov 08, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Helena Bighorns and the Billings Bulls was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Helena emerged with a 5-3 win. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Sebastian Hansson at 9:41 of the third period. Austin Loes had two goals to lead the Bighorns to victory. Loes' tallies came at 7:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Helena and 14:14 into the third to make the score 4-2 Helena. Helena pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 21 penalty minutes. The Bighorns kept Billings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cole Semchak made 31 saves on 36 shots. Helena also got a goal from John Bonta as well. In addition, Helena received assists from Parker Olson, who had two and Nick Okada, Logan Henne, and Ryan Webber, who each chipped in one. The Bulls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Helena to score on any of its six power plays. Billings forced the Bighorns goalie Austin Brihn to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Bulls were led by Aaron Rio, who tallied two goals. Rio scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Helena. A roughing penalty on Webber had put Billings on the power play. Ralfs Karelis assisted on the tally. Rio's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 2:34 left in the second period. Colter Endy picked up the assist. T J Theodosopoulos also scored for Billings. Other players who recorded assists for Billings were Christian Akita and Orri Haman, who contributed one a piece. Brihn rejected 28 shots on goal for Helena. The Bulls totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play.
