Helena outlasts Great Falls, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Helena Bighorns escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Great Falls Americans.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Dylan Webster at 19:40 of the third period.

Helena was paced by Webster, who finished with one goal.

The Bighorns could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Helena averages 6.0 goals per game. Great Falls was unable to stop the Bighorns from sending pucks towards the net, and Helena eventually piled up 62 shots on goal. The Bighorns had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 10 chances.

Logan Henne also scored for Helena. More assists for Helena came via Theo Campe, Nick Okada, Brian Skillicorn, and Austin Buckholtz, who each chipped in one.

The Americans did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Great Falls puts an average of 5.7 pucks into the net per game. The Americans could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Great Falls was helped by Zachary Mese, who had one goal. Mese scored on the power play 14:52 into the third period to make the score 2-2. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Sebastian Hansson had put the Americans on the power play. Donovan Mattfeldt picked up the assist. Great Falls also got a goal from Austin Krantz as well. In addition, Great Falls received assists from Johnathan Carpenter, Lucas Stover, and Connor Barta, who contributed one a piece.

Austin Brihn made 26 saves for Helena on 28 shots. The Bighorns incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Erik Powell recorded 59 saves for Great Falls. The Americans registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
