Yellowstone falls apart in second, loses to Great Falls, 7-3

The Great Falls Americans used a three-goal second period to put away the Yellowstone Quake, 7-3.

Erik Gatson had two goals and two assists to lead Great Falls. Gatson scored the first of his two goals at 17:22 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Great Falls. Connor Barta assisted on the tally. Gatson's next tally made the score 5-2 Great Falls with 8:53 left in the second period. The Americans earned a power play opportunity when Tommy Toohey was put in the box for cross checking. Lucas Lomax picked up the assist.

Yellowstone fell victim to a deadly Great Falls power play, which ripped the Quake for four goals.

Yellowstone was unable to stop the Americans from sending pucks towards the net, and Great Falls eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Americans could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Great Falls additionally got points from Lomax, who also had two goals and one assist, Steven Goran, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Barta, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Zachary Mese also scored for Great Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Great Falls were Dylan Garton, who had two and Austin Krantz, Cody Page, Brady Christiaens, and Aaron McInnis, who contributed one a piece.

The Quake could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Yellowstone was helped by Jimmy Tich, who racked up one goal and two assists. Tich scored on the power play 12:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Yellowstone. The Quake had taken the advantage when Great Falls' Donovan Mattfeldt got sent off for head contact. Sawyer Scanlan provided the assist. Yellowstone also got points from Scanlan, who also had one goal and one assist and Toohey, who also finished with one goal and two assists. In addition, Yellowstone received assists from Edison Elder, who had one.

Erik Powell made 17 saves for the Americans on 20 shots. Rocco Yapello rejected 27 shots on goal for Yellowstone. The Quake registered three goals on nine power play opportunities.
