Great Falls uses big second period to beat Billings, 8-1

The Great Falls Americans used a three-goal second period to put away the Billings Bulls, 8-1.

Great Falls got the win on the strength of a great game by Aaron McInnis, who had two goals and two assists. McInnis scored the first of his two goals at 9:30 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Great Falls. Lucas Lomax assisted on the tally. McInnis' next tally made the score 6-1 Great Falls with 13:58 left in the third period. Erik Gatson picked up the assist.

The Americans made Bulls' goalies to work between the pipes, getting 43 shots and forcing 35 saves. Cole Semchak made 20 stops and Mark Becica made 15. Team could not crack Billings' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Great Falls also got points from Austin Krantz, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Lomax, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Steven Goran, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Dylan Garton also scored for Great Falls. In addition, Great Falls received assists from Cody Page and Brady Christiaens, who each chipped in one and Max Kaercher and Donovan Mattfeldt, who contributed two a piece.

The Bulls racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and three majors for 37 minutes in penalty time. Billings surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Bulls were led by T J Theodosopoulos, who scored the team's only goal. Theodosopoulos scored 19:56 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Great Falls. Christian Akita assisted on the tally.

Evan Hauser rejected 19 shots on goal for Great Falls. The Americans ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and three majors. Billings registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
