Huge game by Whitehead boosts Mississippi RiverKings over Mississippi Surge, 4-1

Matt Whitehead was all over the ice for Mississippi RiverKings, as he tallied one goal and three assists in Mississippi RiverKings' 4-1 win over Mississippi Surge.

Whitehead beat Alex Scola with a shot 2:00 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Whitehead dished an assist on Todd Hosmer's goal that made the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings at 8:36 into the first period. He then added assists on Hosmer's goal at 7:25 into the second and on Burke Gallimore's goal at 1:58 into the third.

Mississippi RiverKings stifled Mississippi Surge's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Hosmer, who also had two goals and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Mike Grace and Andrew Randazzo, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi Surge racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Mississippi Surge had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. Mississippi Surge relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Joe Tolles, Mark Thorburn and Tom Craig took 10 of the team's 18 shots.

Trever Hertz also scored for Mississippi Surge. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Jordan Peddle, who had one.

Dan McWhinney recorded 17 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Mississippi Surge's Scola stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Mississippi Surge registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
