Peoria survives Mississippi Surge comeback, wins 4-3Mississippi Coast Coliseum Sun, Mar 16, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Peoria Rivermen survived a determined comeback attempt by Mississippi Surge on the way to a 4-3 win. Peoria made the score 4-2 on a goal by Adam Feniak at 17:49 in the second period, and Mississippi Surge got as close as 4-3 when Kyle Kudroch scored 2:32 into the third period. Feniak had a great game for the Rivermen, netting two goals. Peoria put 25 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.2 it averages per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Peoria also got points from Matt Viola, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Alexandre Mentink also scored for Peoria. More assists for Peoria came via Nick Prockow, Jarrett Rush, Joe Schiller, Taylor Larsen, and Garrett Vermeersch, who contributed one each. With 27 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 18.2 shots it averages per game this year. Mississippi Surge was helped by Tom Craig, who had one goal. Craig scored on the power play 4:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge had taken the advantage when the Rivermen's Cole Ruwe got sent off for slashing. Justin MacDonald assisted on the tally. Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Andrew Harrison as well. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from Evan Zych, Jordan Peddle, Trever Hertz, and Tyler Turcotte, who each chipped in one. Kyle Rank recorded 24 saves for Peoria. The Rivermen totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Mississippi Surge's Mathieu Dugas stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced.
