Mississippi RiverKings downs Mississippi Surge, 3-1

Devin Mantha racked up one point to lead Mississippi RiverKings to a 3-1 victory over Mississippi Surge.

Mississippi RiverKings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi Surge to score on any of its three power plays. By firing 38 shots on goal, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 29.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi RiverKings also had goals scored by Todd Hosmer and Burke Gallimore, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Matt Smyth, Mike Hayward, Phil Bronner, Matt Whitehead, Matt Harrington, and Sean Jones, who contributed one each.

Mississippi Surge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Mississippi Surge's offense was clicking better than usual and put 21 shots on goal during the game, better than the 16.6 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi Surge was led by Brett Vandehogen, who scored the team's only goal. Vandehogen scored 4:40 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi Surge. Nicholas Kuqali assisted on the tally.

Mississippi RiverKings' Matthew Krahn stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Mississippi RiverKings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Mathieu Dugas made 35 saves for Mississippi Surge on 37 shots. Mississippi Surge incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
