Bloomington squeaks by Huntsville, 4-2

The Bloomington Thunder and the Huntsville Havoc were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Bloomington made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The Thunder gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mike Henderson 18:37 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Bloomington was sparked by Bobby Watson, who grabbed one goal. Watson scored 1:52 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Bloomington. Travis Granbois assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, Huntsville was paced by Ray Ortiz, who had two goals. Ortiz scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Havoc had gotten the advantage when the Thunder's Kyle Watson was sent off for boarding. Scott Harff picked up the assist. Ortiz's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Bloomington with 16:04 left in the third period. A boarding penalty on Eddie Olczyk had put Huntsville on the power play. Dominic Osman provided the assist.

Penalties took their toll on Bloomington, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals. The defense for the Thunder played an important role offensively, racking up 17 shots on goal. Bloomington put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 20.3 it averages per game.

Brandon Hew also scored for Bloomington. In addition, Bloomington received assists from Curtis Megginson, Brad Barber, Nic Polaski, and Tyler Noseworthy, who contributed one each.

The Havoc forced the Thunder goalie BJ OBrien to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Leland Fidler, who had one.

OBrien recorded 38 saves for Bloomington. The Thunder incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Huntsville's Jesse Kallechy stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Havoc incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
