Fayetteville hangs on, beats Knoxville 4-2

Kyle McNeil gave the Fayetteville FireAntz the lead in the first period, and the Knoxville Ice Bears was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 4-2.

A goal 18:07 into the first period by McNeil proved to be the game winner, and powered Fayetteville to the victory. Bobby Reed provided the assist.

The FireAntz pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 17 penalty minutes.

Fayetteville was led by Corey Toy, who registered one goal and one assist. Toy scored 15:15 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fayetteville. Derek Elliott assisted on the tally.

The FireAntz put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 20.6 they average per game.

Fayetteville also got points from John Clewlow, who also had one goal and one assist and Reed, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Michael Zannella, Tim Recio, and Nick Craven, who each chipped in one.

Knoxville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The 31 shots that the Ice Bears put on net surpassed Knoxville's average of 22.2 shots per game this season.

The Ice Bears were helped by David Segal, who racked up one goal. Segal scored 8:08 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Francis Drolet provided the assist. Berkley Scott also scored for Knoxville. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Bryan Hince, who had one and Mark Van Vliet, who had two.

Peter Skoggard made 29 saves for Fayetteville on 31 shots. Hince rejected 24 shots on goal for Knoxville. The Ice Bears totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play.
