Louisiana beats Mississippi RiverKings 7-3 as Grant gets hat trick

Mississippi RiverKings could not stop the Louisiana IceGators' Jeff Grant, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-3 win.

Grant notched his first tally 2:36 into the second period. He then added goals at 12:02 into the second and at 4:07 into the third.

Louisiana bested its season scoring average. This season, the IceGators average 3.5 goals per contest.

Louisiana additionally got points from Jordan Braid, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Jeremy Boyer, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Kirk Byczynski, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Bret Peppler also scored for Louisiana. More assists for Louisiana came via Greg Brown, Josh Duplantis, and Matt Robertson, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi RiverKings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 33 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.6 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Matt Whitehead, who finished with one goal. Whitehead scored 12:57 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Others who scored for Mississippi RiverKings included Todd Hosmer and Phil Bronner, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Mike Grace, Burke Gallimore, Daniel Sobotka, and Andrew Randazzo, who contributed one a piece.

Kiefer Smiley rejected 30 shots on goal for Louisiana. The IceGators incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mississippi RiverKings' Dan McWhinney stopped 19 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Mississippi RiverKings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
