Peoria blows out Mississippi Surge, 4-1Peoria Civic Center Sat, Mar 08, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Peoria Rivermen had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over Mississippi Surge. Peoria got the win thanks to a great game by Steve Morra, who had one goal and two assists. Morra scored 17:44 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Joe Schiller picked up the assist. The Rivermen's Kevin Carr was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Carr will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest. Mississippi Surge was unable to stop Peoria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rivermen eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Peoria also got points from Ben Oskroba, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Peoria included Adam Hartley and Matt Viola, who scored one goal each. More assists for Peoria came via Chris Greene, who had two and Parker Stanfield and Charlie Carkin, who contributed one a piece. Mississippi Surge stifled Peoria's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 27 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 17.5 shots it averages per game this year. Mississippi Surge was led by Bill Baker, who scored the team's only goal. Baker scored on the power play 8:25 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mississippi Surge had taken the advantage when the Rivermen's Morra got sent off for interference. Evan Zych assisted on the tally. Peoria incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Mathieu Dugas rejected 35 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
