GAME RECAP

Arcibal's goals lift Columbus to 2-0 victory over Bloomington

Columbus Civic Center    Fri, Mar 07, 2014

Neilsson Arcibal was all over the ice for the Columbus Cottonmouths, as he tallied two goals in Columbus' 2-0 win over the Bloomington Thunder.

Arcibal found the back of the net 3:01 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Columbus and again while 8:19 into the second to make the score 2-0 Columbus.

The Cottonmouths were boosted by Andrew Loewen, who turned in a shutout with 36 saves. The solid play of Loewen will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.69.

Columbus stifled Bloomington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cottonmouths were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. By firing 44 shots on goal, Columbus exceeded the 27.5 shots it averages per game this year.

In addition, Columbus received assists from Preston Shupe and Steve Mele, who contributed two a piece.

The Thunder put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cottonmouths to score on any of their four power plays. Bloomington did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Thunder put an average of 2.4 pucks into the net per game. Bloomington's offense rang up 36 shots on Columbus' net.

The Thunder were led by Nic Polaski, who took seven shots.

BJ OBrien rejected 42 shots on goal for Bloomington. The Thunder totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
