Huntsville outlasts Fayetteville, 5-3

The game between the Huntsville Havoc and the Fayetteville FireAntz was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Huntsville emerged with a 5-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Josh Harris secured the win for the Havoc with a goal in the third period.

Harris had a great game for Huntsville, netting two goals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:45 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Both goalies were tossed from the game during the major incident in the third period.

The the Havoc penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and four majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. Huntsville surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Havoc put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fayetteville to score on any of its four power plays. Huntsville put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.7 it averages per game.

Huntsville also had goals scored by Stuart Stefan, Dominic Osman, and Paul Kurceba, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Ray Ortiz, who had one, Justin Cseter, who had three, and Leland Fidler and Nick Lazorko, who each chipped in two.

The FireAntz were often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and four majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Fayetteville had been spending in the box. The FireAntz relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as John Clewlow, Kyle McNeil and Kory Helowka took 13 of the team's 23 shots.

Fayetteville additionally got points from Derek Elliott, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Zach Carriveau and Matt Smyth, who contributed one a piece.

Kevin Genoe recorded 19 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Havoc ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Genoe was ejected from the game. Fayetteville's Peter Skoggard stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. For the FireAntz, Skoggard was ejected from the game.
