Pensacola holds on for 3-2 win against Mississippi RiverKings

Mississippi RiverKings tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but the Pensacola Ice Flyers held on for a 3-2 victory.

A goal by Corey Banfield put Pensacola up 3-1 in the third period, but Mississippi RiverKings pulled to within one on Burke Gallimore's tally 19:57 into the third period.

Banfield had two goals to lead the Ice Flyers to victory.

Pensacola put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi RiverKings to score on any of its three power plays. With 37 shots on target during the contest, the Ice Flyers exceeded the 24.7 shots they average per game this year.

Pensacola additionally got points from John Dunbar, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Joshua Turnbull, Joe Caveney, Ryan Salvis, Adam Pawlick, and Steve Bergin, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi RiverKings' offense rang up 31 shots on Pensacola's net.

Todd Hosmer also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Mike Grace, Leo Thomas, Paul Clancy, and Tyler Sheldrake, who contributed one a piece.

Ross MacKinnon recorded 29 saves for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Mississippi RiverKings' Matthew Krahn stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Mississippi RiverKings ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
