Pensacola vanquishes Mississippi Surge in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Corey Banfield netted the deciding goal for the Pensacola Ice Flyers in the shootout as Ice Flyers prevailed over Mississippi Surge, 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Pensacola also got a shootout goal from Banfield.

The Ice Flyers overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pensacola trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by Mississippi Surge's Tom Craig at 7:04 in the second period. The Ice Flyers tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by John Dunbar at 16:19 in the third period.

Dunbar was all over the ice for Pensacola, as he racked up two goals in the win.

The Ice Flyers relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Dunbar, Joshua Turnbull and Adam Pawlick took 20 of the team's 34 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Ryan Salvis, who had one.

Mississippi Surge stifled Pensacola's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Jordan Peddle also scored for Mississippi Surge. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Evan Zych, Andrew Harrison, and Jeff Martens, who each chipped in one.

Ross MacKinnon rejected 18 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Dan Clarke made 31 saves for Mississippi Surge on 33 shots. Mississippi Surge incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
