Columbus downs Fayetteville, 5-2

Tory Allan registered two points to lead the Columbus Cottonmouths to a 5-2 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz.

Columbus' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Fayetteville power plays. The Cottonmouths' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Columbus finished with 23 penalty minutes. The Cottonmouths put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.6 they average per game.

Columbus also got points from Preston Shupe, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jordan Draper, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Columbus also had goals scored by Sam Bowles and Andy Willigar, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Kyle Johnson, Neilsson Arcibal, and Matt Gingera, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville was often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the FireAntz had been spending in the box. Fayetteville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The 37 shots that the FireAntz put on net surpassed Fayetteville's average of 25.1 shots per game this season.

The FireAntz were helped by Nick Craven, who grabbed one goal. Craven scored 12:34 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Fayetteville. Corey Tamblyn picked up the assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Brandon Richardson as well. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Kory Helowka, Zach Carriveau, and Matt Smyth, who contributed one a piece.

Columbus' Andrew Loewen stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Dustin Carlson rejected 31 shots on goal for Fayetteville.
