Louisiana vanquishes Pensacola in shootout, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Adam Stuart scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Louisiana IceGators picked up the extra point in a 5-4 (2-0 SO) win over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Louisiana's other shootout goal was scored by Stuart.

The IceGators came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Louisiana trailed 5-2 after a goal by Pensacola's Corey Banfield at 17:46 in the third period. The IceGators knotted things up at 2-2 on a short handed goal by Keegan Flaherty at 2:50 in the second period.

Louisiana got the win on the strength of a great game by Stuart, who had one goal and one assist. Stuart scored 19:49 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Pensacola. Chris Wilson provided the assist.

The IceGators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Louisiana put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.1 it averages per game. The IceGators could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

Louisiana was led by Stuart, who tallied one goal and one assist. Louisiana also got points from Shawn McNeil, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Louisiana included Matt Robertson and Bret Peppler, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Clark Byczynski, Jordan Braid, and Jeremy Boyer, who contributed one a piece.

The Ice Flyers stifled the IceGators' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 49 shots on target during the contest, Pensacola exceeded the 24.9 shots it averages per game this year.

The Ice Flyers were helped by John Dunbar, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Dunbar scored 17:13 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Pensacola. Pensacola also had goals scored by Brett Lutes and Adam Pawlick, who each put in one. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Malcolm Lyles, Justin Alonzo, Roman Andrejev, and Joe Caveney, who each chipped in one.

Matt Zenzola made 45 saves for Louisiana on 49 shots. The IceGators registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Pensacola's Ross MacKinnon stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Ice Flyers incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Pensacola ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bennett Schneider was ejected from the game.
