Louisiana downs Mississippi Surge in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Louisiana IceGators pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over Mississippi Surge on a clutch goal by Bret Peppler.

Louisiana almost relinquished a two-score lead. The IceGators made it 3-1 on a goal by Peppler at 6:07 in the third period. Mississippi Surge got to within 3-2 on a goal by Chapen LeBlond at 7:14 in the third period.

Peppler was all over the ice for Louisiana, as he racked up two goals in the win.

The IceGators allowed the opposing goalie to relax, taking only 14 shots on goal to force 10 saves. Team.mascot's final shot tally was well below the team's average of 27.3 pucks on net per game. Louisiana's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Mississippi Surge power plays.

Others who scored for Louisiana included Jeff Grant and Ron Cramer, who scored one goal each. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Jordan Braid and Kirk Byczynski, who contributed one a piece and Josh Duplantis, Chris Wilson, and Jeremy Boyer, who each chipped in two.

Mississippi Surge put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.4 it averages per game.

Mississippi Surge also had goals scored by Kyle Kudroch and Ian Boots, who each put in one. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Dean Moore, Brad Barber, Justin MacDonald, Jordan Peddle, Brett Vandehogen, and Bill Baker, who contributed one a piece.

Matt Zenzola recorded 26 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Mississippi Surge's Dan Clarke stopped 10 shots out of the 14 that he faced. Mississippi Surge ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
