Knoxville squeaks by Columbus, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Knoxville Ice Bears escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Berkley Scott's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Scott was all over the ice for Knoxville, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Scott scored 19:54 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Knoxville.

The Ice Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Knoxville was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Bears' offense was clicking better than usual and put 38 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.6 shots per game they average.

Others who scored for Knoxville included Brad Pawlowski, Eric Satim, and David Segal, who scored one goal each. More assists for Knoxville came via Ben Power, who had three.

Columbus found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. The Cottonmouths relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Matt Gingera, Will Aide and Jordan Draper took 14 of the team's 26 shots.

Columbus also got points from Neilsson Arcibal, who also had one goal and one assist. Kyle Johnson also scored for Columbus. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Preston Shupe, who had two and Tom Maldonado and Tory Allan, who each chipped in one.

Bryan Hince made 23 saves for Knoxville on 26 shots. Andrew Loewen rejected 34 shots on goal for Columbus.
