Mississippi Surge outlasts Fayetteville, 3-2

Mississippi Surge gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Fayetteville FireAntz.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Bill Baker at 16:06 of the third period.

Mississippi Surge's penalty kill excelled, as Mississippi Surge gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Mississippi Surge was sparked by Baker, who grabbed one goal.

Mississippi Surge stifled Fayetteville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Others who scored for Mississippi Surge included Jarkko Leppanen and Chapen LeBlond, who scored one goal each. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Kyle Kudroch, Dion Campbell, Jordan Peddle, and Joe Tolles, who each chipped in one.

The FireAntz were helped by Chris Greene, who racked up one goal. Greene scored 8:00 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Matt Ridley also scored for Fayetteville. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Corey Toy and Derek Elliott, who contributed one a piece.

Dan Clarke made 27 saves for Mississippi Surge on 29 shots. Mississippi Surge incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Fayetteville's Peter Skoggard stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The FireAntz incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
