Harry Mahesh scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Bloomington Thunder picked up the extra point in a 1-0 (3-2 SO) win over the Knoxville Ice Bears. The shootout featured 18 attempts between both teams. Knoxville got shootout goals from Mark Van Vliet and Ben Souders. Bloomington's other shootout goals were scored by Bobby Watson and Reid MacLeod.The Thunder were boosted by BJ OBrien, who turned in a shutout with 33 saves. OBrien certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.26 entering the contest. Bloomington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Knoxville power plays. The Thunder's offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 19.3 shots per game they average. Bloomington was led by Mahesh, who took three shots. The Ice Bears could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Knoxville puts an average of 2.7 pucks into the net per game. The Ice Bears' defensemen bolstered Knoxville's offensive attack, as they bombarded OBrien with 17 shots. The Ice Bears' offense rang up 33 shots on the Thunder's net. Knoxville was led by Van Vliet, who took five shots. Bloomington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Ice Bears' Bryan Hince stopped 41 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Knoxville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
