Early goals doom Mississippi Surge, falls to Pensacola, 6-1Pensacola Bay Center Fri, Jan 24, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pensacola Ice Flyers opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 6-1 over Mississippi Surge. Adam Pawlick had a great game for Pensacola, netting two goals. Pawlick scored at 13:05 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Pensacola and again while on the power play 9:33 into the second to make the score 5-1 Pensacola. The Ice Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi Surge to score on any of its three power plays. Pensacola surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Ice Flyers average 3.6 goals per game. With 34 shots on target during the contest, Pensacola exceeded the 27.7 shots it averages per game this year. Pensacola also had goals scored by Joshua Turnbull, who had two and Brett Lutes and Joe Caveney, who each put in one. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Keegan Flaherty, Roman Andrejev, and Steve Bergin, who each chipped in one and Ryan Salvis, Corey Banfield, and John Dunbar, who contributed two a piece. Mississippi Surge relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Chapen LeBlond, Jeff Martens and Jordan Peddle took 21 of the team's 40 shots. Peter Di Salvo recorded 39 saves for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Mississippi Surge's Mathieu Dugas stopped 28 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Mississippi Surge ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors.
