The Louisiana IceGators survived a determined comeback attempt by Mississippi RiverKings on the way to a 5-4 win. A goal by Bret Peppler put Louisiana up 5-0 in the second period, but Mississippi RiverKings pulled to within one on Matt Whitehead's tally 10:11 into the third period. The IceGators put 41 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.4 they average per game. Louisiana was helped by Jordan Braid, who registered one goal and one assist. Braid scored 8:17 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Louisiana. Peppler provided the assist. Louisiana additionally got points from Peppler, who also had one goal and one assist. Louisiana also got a goal from Shawn McNeil as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Josh Duplantis and Jeff Grant, who contributed one a piece and Chris Wilson, Tyler Barr, and Adam Stuart, who each chipped in two. Mississippi RiverKings stifled the IceGators' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mississippi RiverKings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Matt Harrington, Whitehead and Lucas LaBelle took 13 of the team's 25 shots. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Brett Valliquette, Devin Mantha, Mike Hayward, Phil Bronner, Tyler Sheldrake, and Sean Jones, who contributed one a piece. Kiefer Smiley recorded 21 saves for Louisiana. The IceGators totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Dan McWhinney rejected 36 shots on goal for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Mississippi RiverKings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Smyth was ejected from the game.
