Mississippi RiverKings survives Louisiana comeback, wins 3-2Landers Center Fri, Jan 17, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Louisiana IceGators tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but Mississippi RiverKings held on for a 3-2 victory. Mississippi RiverKings made the score 3-1 on a goal by Phil Bronner at 15:52 in the second period, and Louisiana got as close as 3-2 when Shawn McNeil scored 11:05 into the third period. Bronner had a great game for Mississippi RiverKings, netting two goals. Mississippi RiverKings forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. Mississippi RiverKings surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Mississippi RiverKings put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.7 it averages per game. Devin Mantha also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Matt Smyth and Matt Harrington, who contributed one a piece and Mike Hayward and Leo Thomas, who each chipped in two. The IceGators stifled Mississippi RiverKings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Louisiana's offense was clicking better than usual and put 33 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.3 shots per game it averages. Louisiana also got a goal from Tyler Lyon as well.
