Fayetteville beats Pensacola 4-0 as Skoggard gains shutout

Peter Skoggard was superb between the pipes for the Fayetteville FireAntz, as he did not allow a goal in a 4-0 victory over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

Pensacola's power play was ineffective against Fayetteville's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The FireAntz's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Pensacola power plays. Fayetteville's defensive effort looked to be improved. The FireAntz average 2.9 goals allowed per game. Fayetteville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.8 shots per game it averages.

The FireAntz were helped by Mike Kavanagh, who tallied one goal and one assist. Kavanagh scored on the power play 15:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. A tripping penalty on John Dunbar had put Fayetteville on the power play. Matt Smyth provided the assist. Fayetteville also got points from Bobby Reed, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Fayetteville also had goals scored by John Clewlow and Nick Craven, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Brandon Richardson, Kyle McNeil, and Chris Greene, who contributed one a piece.

The Ice Flyers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Pensacola puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Ice Flyers put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.0 they average per game.

Pensacola was led by Joshua Turnbull, who took six shots.

Peter Skoggard made 34 saves for the FireAntz on 34 shots. Fayetteville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Peter Di Salvo recorded 27 saves for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
