Peoria downs Mississippi Surge, 5-2

Steve Morra finished with two points to lead the Peoria Rivermen to a 5-2 victory over Mississippi Surge.

Peoria excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. By firing 24 shots on goal, the Rivermen exceeded the 20.4 shots they average per game this year.

Peoria also got points from Nick Prockow, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Peoria included Taylor Larsen, Charlie Carkin, and Justin Gvora, who each put in one. More assists for Peoria came via Tyler Amburgey, who had three and Joe Schiller, Matt Viola, Jeremiah Ketts, and Aaron McGill, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi Surge's offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.7 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi Surge was helped by Chapen LeBlond, who registered one goal and one assist. LeBlond scored 4:17 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Jordan Peddle provided the assist. Mississippi Surge additionally got points from Justin MacDonald, who also racked up one goal and one assist.

Eric Levine made 26 saves for Peoria on 28 shots. The Rivermen totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Mathieu Dugas rejected 19 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
