The Louisiana IceGators and the Huntsville Havoc both failed to score in overtime, but Louisiana won the game 5-4 (3-1 SO) after Jake Trask's deciding goal in the shootout. The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Huntsville got a shootout goal from Josh Harris. The IceGators' other shootout goals were scored by Chris Wilson and Trask.Wilson was all over the ice for Louisiana, as he finished with two goals in the win. Wilson's tallies came at 9:03 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Louisiana and 12:33 into the first to make the score 3-1 Louisiana. The the IceGators penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Louisiana had been spending in the box. The IceGators' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Havoc's power play unit. The 32 shots that Louisiana put on net surpassed the IceGators' average of 26.6 shots per game this season. Louisiana also got points from Shawn McNeil, who also registered one goal and one assist. Tyler Lyon also scored for Louisiana. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Jeff Grant and Mitchell Stretch, who contributed one a piece and Trask and Adam Stuart, who each chipped in two. Huntsville stifled Louisiana's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Havoc were below their usual level of shot production, taking 21 shots compared to the 29.9 Huntsville averages. The Havoc were led by Harris, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Harris scored on the power play 10:30 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Huntsville. A holding penalty on McNeil had put Huntsville on the power play. Stuart Stefan assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Huntsville included Leland Fidler, Brandon Perry, and Matt Singleton, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Mike Gurtler, who had one and Justin Fox, who had three. Kiefer Smiley recorded 17 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Jesse Kallechy rejected 27 shots on goal for the Havoc. Huntsville ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
