Huge game by Turnbull boosts Pensacola over Louisiana, 6-2

Joshua Turnbull had two goals and one assist to lead the Pensacola Ice Flyers to a 6-2 victory over the Louisiana IceGators.

Turnbull's tallies came on the power play at 4:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola and 5:57 into the third to make the score 2-2.

Pensacola was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Flyers had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Pensacola excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Ice Flyers' offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.2 shots per game they average. Pensacola surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Ice Flyers average 3.3 goals per contest.

Pensacola additionally got points from Adam Pawlick, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Corey Banfield, who also had one goal and one assist. Pensacola also had goals scored by Malcolm Lyles and Mackenzie Micks, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Justin Alonzo, Shaun Arvai, Brett Lutes, Steve Whitely, Steve Bergin, and John Dunbar, who contributed one a piece.

The Louisiana penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time. The IceGators surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Louisiana failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 19 pucks on goal after averaging 26.6 shots per game this season. The IceGators' offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put eight shots on net during the game.

Louisiana was helped by Adam Stuart, who registered one goal. Stuart scored short handed 10:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Shawn McNeil provided the assist. Louisiana also got a goal from Matthew Robertson as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Jason Cohen and Joe Cangelosi, who each chipped in one.

Ross MacKinnon made 17 saves for Pensacola on 19 shots. The Ice Flyers registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Kiefer Smiley rejected 23 shots on goal for the IceGators.
