Huge game by Draper boosts Columbus over Louisiana, 7-4Columbus Civic Center Sun, Dec 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Columbus Cottonmouths' Jordan Draper had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-4 win over the Louisiana IceGators. Draper scored at 7:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus and again while on the power play 12:38 into the third to make the score 5-4 Columbus.Columbus pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 17 penalty minutes. The Cottonmouths surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Columbus averages 3.1 goals per game. Team could not crack Louisiana's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. With 48 shots on target during the contest, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 25.6 shots they average per game this year. Columbus also got a goal from Will Aide as well. More assists for Columbus came via Levi Lind, who had two, Steve Mele, who had three, and Kyle Johnson and Andy Willigar, who each chipped in one. The IceGators racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Louisiana had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. The IceGators put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.9 they average per game. Louisiana was helped by Matthew Robertson, who tallied one goal. Robertson scored on the power play 19:41 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Louisiana. The IceGators had gotten the advantage when Columbus' Dan Bremner was sent off for high sticking. Shawn McNeil picked up the assist. Louisiana also had goals scored by Clark Byczynski, Josh Duplantis, and Jeff Grant, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Harry Mahesh, who had one and Tyler Barr and Adam Stuart, who each chipped in two. Andrew Loewen recorded 31 saves for the Cottonmouths. Matt Zenzola made 41 saves for Louisiana on 46 shots. The IceGators registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
