Mississippi RiverKings survives penalties, beats Knoxville, 5-2

The Knoxville Ice Bears failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and Mississippi RiverKings shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Mississippi RiverKings was sparked by Mike Hayward, who registered one goal and one assist. Hayward scored on the power play 14:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings had gained a power play chance when Jon Higgins was whistled for cross checking. Matt Whitehead assisted on the tally.

Mississippi RiverKings stifled Knoxville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mississippi RiverKings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Todd Hosmer, Charles LaChance and Whitehead took 14 of the team's 27 shots.

Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Whitehead, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Leo Thomas, who had two and Mike Grace, Matthew Krahn, Matt Harrington, and Andrew Randazzo, who contributed one a piece.

Knoxville also got a goal from Eric Satim as well. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Peter Neal, Brett Valliquette, and Andrew Himelson, who each chipped in one.

Matthew Krahn made 21 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 23 shots. Mississippi RiverKings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Bryan Hince recorded 22 saves for the Ice Bears. Knoxville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
