Viola, Vermeersch lead Peoria over Bloomington, 6-3

Behind two goals and one assist from Matt Viola and one goal and three assists from Garrett Vermeersch, the Peoria Rivermen downed the Bloomington Thunder 6-3.

Viola scored the first of his two goals at 1:30 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Peoria. Parker Stanfield provided the assist. Viola's next tally made the score 4-1 Peoria with 13:26 left in the second period. Justin Gvora assisted on the tally. Vermeersch scored 10:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria. Viola provided the assist.

Peoria's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Bloomington power plays. The Rivermen surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Peoria averages 3.3 goals per game. The 33 shots that the Rivermen put on net surpassed Peoria's average of 28.3 shots per game this season.

Peoria additionally got points from Stanfield, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Vermeersch, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Corey Tamblyn, who also had one goal and one assist, and Gvora, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Peoria came via Joe Schiller, Taylor Larsen, and Tyler Amburgey, who each chipped in one.

Bloomington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Thunder were helped by Kevin Walrod, who tallied two goals. Walrod scored the first of his two goals at 17:22 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Travis Granbois assisted on the tally. Walrod's next tally made the score 5-3 Peoria with 14:03 left in the third period. A tripping call on Chris Gentile put Bloomington on the penalty kill. Dustin Hopfner picked up the assist. Sy Nutkevitch also scored for Bloomington. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Tyler Noseworthy, who had two.

The Rivermen's Eric Levine stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Peoria incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. BJ OBrien made 27 saves for the Thunder on 33 shots.
