Pensacola outlasts Fayetteville, 3-2

The Pensacola Ice Flyers and the Fayetteville FireAntz were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Pensacola made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Joshua Turnbull secured the win for the Ice Flyers with a goal in the third period.

Pensacola was led by Turnbull, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Turnbull scored short handed 3:51 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Pensacola. A cross checking call on Steve Whitely put the Ice Flyers on the penalty kill. Ryan Salvis provided the assist.

Pensacola's offense was clicking better than usual and put 37 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.5 shots per game it averages.

Others who scored for Pensacola included Adam Pawlick and Mike MacIntyre, who each put in one. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Justin Alonzo and John Dunbar, who contributed one a piece.

Fayetteville was led by Jeff Martens, who finished with one goal. Martens scored on the power play 10:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The FireAntz had gotten the advantage when the Ice Flyers' Dunbar was sent off for too many men. Matt Ridley picked up the assist. Fayetteville also had goals scored by Mike Kavanagh and John Clewlow, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Kevin Kessler, Brett Liscomb, and Bobby Reed, who each chipped in one.

Ross MacKinnon made 24 saves for Pensacola on 26 shots. The Ice Flyers totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Brad Fogal rejected 34 shots on goal for Fayetteville. The FireAntz totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play.
