Huntsville vanquishes Louisiana in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Stuart Stefan scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Huntsville Havoc picked up the extra point in a 6-5 (2-1 SO) win over the Louisiana IceGators.

The two teams needed 18 turns to complete the shootout. Louisiana got a shootout goal from Matthew Robertson. Huntsville also got a shootout goal from Nick Lazorko.

The Havoc came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Huntsville trailed 3-1 after a goal by the IceGators' Robertson at 1:43 in the second period. The Havoc knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Corey Bellamy at 13:23 in the third period.

Huntsville bested its season scoring average. This season, the Havoc average 3.6 goals per contest. By firing 41 shots on goal, Huntsville exceeded the 29.1 shots it averages per game this year.

The Havoc were helped by Matt Singleton, who grabbed one goal. Singleton scored 4:49 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Bellamy assisted on the tally. Huntsville additionally got points from Justin Fox, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Bellamy, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Huntsville included Leland Fidler and Dominic Osman, who each put in one. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Justin Cseter, Brandon Perry, Lazorko, Mike Gurtler, Paul Kurceba, and Josh Harris, who contributed one a piece.

Huntsville was unable to stop Louisiana from sending pucks towards the net, and the IceGators eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Jeff Grant also scored for Louisiana. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Chris Wilson, who had two and Clark Byczynski, Tyler Lyon, Jake Trask, and Adam Stuart, who each chipped in one.

Kevin Genoe recorded 28 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Louisiana's Kiefer Smiley stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The IceGators incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
