Pensacola boosted by Griggs' play in net, beats Mississippi Surge 4-1

The Pensacola Ice Flyers relied on the sparkling performance of John Griggs in net to grab a 4-1 win against Mississippi Surge.

Pensacola was paced by Mike MacIntyre, who tallied one goal. MacIntyre scored on the power play 9:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Pensacola. The Ice Flyers had gained a power play chance when Tom Janosz was whistled for slashing. John Dunbar picked up the assist.

Pensacola put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.1 it averages per game.

Pensacola also got points from Joshua Turnbull, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Ryan Salvis, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Brett Lutes as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Justin Alonzo, Steve Whitely, and Corey Banfield, who each chipped in one.

With 35 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 28.3 shots it averages per game this year. Mississippi Surge could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Mississippi Surge was led by Nicholas Kuqali, who scored the team's only goal. Kuqali scored on the power play 12:02 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Mississippi Surge earned a power play opportunity when Shaun Arvai was put in the box for holding. Chapen LeBlond provided the assist.

Griggs rejected 34 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Mathieu Dugas made 23 saves for Mississippi Surge on 27 shots. Mississippi Surge registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Mississippi Surge ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bill Baker was ejected from the game.
