Kudroch lifts Mississippi Surge over Bloomington, 6-1

Kyle Kudroch had two goals to lead Mississippi Surge to a 6-1 victory over the Bloomington Thunder.

Kudroch's tallies came on the power play at 9:05 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi Surge and on the power play 19:22 into the first to make the score 3-1 Mississippi Surge.

Mississippi Surge's Mathieu Dugas was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 37 saves and let only one puck past him. Dugas certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.99 entering the contest.

Bloomington's power play was ineffective against Mississippi Surge's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Mississippi Surge surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, Mississippi Surge averages 3.1 goals per contest. Mississippi Surge took advantage of the Thunder's penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities.

Mississippi Surge also got points from Luke Greiner, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Mark Thorburn, who also had two goals and one assist. Joe Tolles also scored for Mississippi Surge. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from Mitch Bruijsten, who had three, Kyle Fletcher and Jarkko Leppanen, who each chipped in one, and Tom Janosz and Tommy Lange, who contributed two a piece.

Bloomington's defensemen bolstered the Thunder's offensive attack, as they bombarded Dugas with 18 shots. Bloomington forced Mississippi Surge goalie Dugas to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Thunder were led by Kevin Walrod, who scored the team's only goal. Walrod scored on the power play 5:53 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Bloomington had gained a power play chance when Janosz was whistled for roughing. Burke Gallimore picked up the assist.

Mississippi Surge incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Thunder's starting goalie, Max Strang, made 14 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of BJ OBrien, who stopped nine shots. Bloomington incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
