Pensacola falls to Louisiana in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Cajundome Fri, Dec 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Jake Trask gave the Louisiana IceGators a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Pensacola Ice Flyers when he scored 4:26 into the extra period. Louisiana came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The IceGators fell behind 3-1 after a power play goal by Pensacola's Steve Whitely at 10:13 in the second period. Louisiana knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Chris Wilson at 19:43 in the third period. Wilson was all over the ice for the IceGators, as he had two goals in the win. With 36 shots on target during the contest, Louisiana exceeded the 27.8 shots it averages per game this year. Louisiana also got a goal from Kirk Byczynski as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Tyler Lyon, Jeff Grant, and Bret Peppler, who contributed one a piece and Shawn McNeil and Matthew Robertson, who each chipped in two. The Ice Flyers forced the IceGators goalie Kiefer Smiley to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Pensacola was helped by Adam Pawlick, who racked up one goal. Pawlick scored 55 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Corey Banfield assisted on the tally. Brett Lutes also scored for Pensacola. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Nate Peterson, Paul Rodrigues, and Joshua Turnbull, who contributed one a piece. Smiley rejected 31 shots on goal for Louisiana. The IceGators incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Ice Flyers' Ross MacKinnon stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Pensacola incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
