Louisiana rides Smiley to victory over Pensacola, 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Kiefer Smiley helped the Louisiana IceGators defeat the Pensacola Ice Flyers, 2-1.

Louisiana's penalty kill excelled, as the IceGators gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Louisiana was led by Tyler Lyon, who grabbed one goal. Lyon scored 3:02 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Reid MacLeod picked up the assist.

The IceGators stifled Pensacola's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Louisiana averages 28.8 shots on goal per game, but only sent 23 pucks on net against the Ice Flyers.

Chris Wilson also scored for Louisiana. More assists for Louisiana came via Shawn McNeil, Matthew Robertson, and Mitchell Stretch, who each chipped in one.

Pensacola managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Ice Flyers finished below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Pensacola was held below its usual level of production. The Ice Flyers put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. With 40 shots on target during the contest, Pensacola exceeded the 25.5 shots it averages per game this year.

The Ice Flyers were led by Keegan Flaherty, who scored the team's only goal. Flaherty scored 17:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Adam Pawlick provided the assist.

Smiley recorded 39 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ross MacKinnon made 21 saves for Pensacola on 23 shots.
