Mississippi Surge uses shootout to best Mississippi RiverKings, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Kyle Kudroch scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Mississippi Surge picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-0 SO) win over Mississippi RiverKings.

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Mississippi Surge's other shootout goal was scored by Kudroch.

Mississippi Surge came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Mississippi Surge fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Mississippi RiverKings' Charles LaChance at 14:05 in the first period. Mississippi Surge knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Jordan Peddle at 18:53 in the second period.

Mississippi Surge's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Mississippi RiverKings power plays. Mississippi Surge put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.0 it averages per game.

Mississippi Surge was helped by Mark Thorburn, who finished with one goal. Thorburn scored 14:06 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Mackenzie Micks assisted on the tally. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from Chapen LeBlond, who had one and Justin MacDonald, who had two.

Mississippi RiverKings kept Mississippi Surge's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mathieu Dugas made 34 saves on 36 shots.

Matt Smyth also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Matt Harrington, who had one and Devin Mantha, who had two.

Mississippi Surge totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Matthew Krahn recorded 33 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings ended with 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors.
