Louisiana hangs on, beats Bloomington 4-2

The Louisiana IceGators took the lead against the Bloomington Thunder in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

Louisiana took over the lead for good with a goal by Bret Peppler at 2:37 in the first period. Reid MacLeod provided the assist.

Jeff Grant had two goals to lead the IceGators to victory. Grant scored at 1:31 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Louisiana and again while 19:49 into the third to make the score 4-2 Louisiana.

Louisiana's offense was clicking better than usual and put 38 shots on goal during the game, better than the 33.0 shots per game it averages.

Louisiana additionally got points from Peppler, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Louisiana also got a goal from Jeremey Boyer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Shawn McNeil, who had two and Jason Cohen, Chris Wilson, and Kirk Byczynski, who each chipped in one.

The defense for Bloomington played an important role offensively, racking up 12 shots on goal.

The Thunder were helped by Kyle Watson, who had one goal. Watson scored on the power play 9:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Bloomington had gotten the advantage when the IceGators' Clark Byczynski was sent off for holding. Pat Schafer picked up the assist. Bloomington also got points from Kevin Walrod, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Bloomington received assists from Tyler Noseworthy, who had one.

Louisiana's Matt Zenzola stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The IceGators totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Max Strang recorded 34 saves for the Thunder. Bloomington totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
