Knoxville blows out Columbus, 9-4

The Columbus Cottonmouths had trouble finding ways to stop the Knoxville Ice Bears, which beat Cottonmouths, 9-4.

Jon Higgins had one goal and three assists to lead Knoxville. Higgins scored 15:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. Francis Drolet provided the assist.

The the Ice Bears penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. Knoxville had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Ice Bears outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Knoxville averages 3.2 goals per contest. The 34 shots that the Ice Bears put on net surpassed Knoxville's average of 28.6 shots per game this season.

Knoxville additionally got points from Cody Dion, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Eric Satim, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Ben Souders, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Brett Valliquette, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Drolet, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Knoxville included Phil Bronner and David Segal, who each put in one. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Mark Van Vliet, Jason Price, Peter Neal, and Andrew Himelson, who each chipped in one and Brady Vandenberk and Ben Power, who contributed two a piece.

Columbus was led by Levi Lind, who had one goal and one assist. Lind scored short handed 18:54 into the third period to make the score 8-4 Knoxville. The Cottonmouths played down a man on Tom Maldonado's roughing. Columbus also had goals scored by Jordan Braid, Will Aide, and Tory Allan, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Jordan Zalba and Jordan Draper, who each chipped in one.

Bryan Hince rejected 26 shots on goal for the Ice Bears. Knoxville registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Columbus' Travis Bosch stopped 25 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Cottonmouths totaled 41 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Columbus ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Gallant was ejected from the game.
