MacDonald's hat trick boosts Mississippi Surge over Louisiana, 7-4

Justin MacDonald lifted Mississippi Surge to a 7-4 victory with a hat trick against the Louisiana IceGators.

MacDonald's first goal came 7:08 into the second period. He then added goals at 1:50 into the third and at 18:46 into the third.

Mississippi Surge bested its season scoring average. This season, Mississippi Surge averages 4.0 goals per contest. By firing 41 shots on goal, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 32.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi Surge also got points from Chapen LeBlond, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Matt Gordon as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Jordan Peddle, who had three, Nicholas Kuqali, Kyle Kudroch, Brian Elser, and Bill Baker, who contributed one a piece, and Kyle Fletcher and Jarkko Leppanen, who each chipped in two.

Louisiana's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Mississippi Surge power plays. The IceGators' offense rang up 31 shots on Mississippi Surge's net.

Louisiana was led by Adam Stuart, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Stuart scored 18:00 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Louisiana. Jason Cohen picked up the assist. Matthew Robertson also scored for Louisiana. More assists for Louisiana came via Kirk Byczynski, who had one and Tyler Lyon, who had two.

Mathieu Dugas rejected 27 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge ended with 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors. Matt Zenzola recorded 34 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
