Strang, Bloomington blank Fayetteville, 4-0

Max Strang recorded a shutout against the Fayetteville FireAntz as the Bloomington Thunder picked up a 4-0 win.

Bloomington got the win on the strength of a great game by Kevin Walrod, who had two goals and one assist. Walrod scored the first of his two goals at 2:31 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington. Darick Ste-Marie provided the assist. Walrod's next tally made the score 4-0 Bloomington with 3:04 left in the second period. Matt Puntureri assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:28 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The goalies for both teams were ejected from the contest at 6:25 into the third period.

The Thunder were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and five majors for 71 minutes in penalty time. Bloomington surpassed its season average of 42.0 penalty minutes per game. The Thunder stifled Fayetteville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 37 shots on goal, Bloomington exceeded the 29.3 shots it averages per game this year.

Bloomington additionally got points from Ste-Marie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. William Lacasse also scored for Bloomington. In addition, Bloomington received assists from Curtis Megginson, Travis Granbois, and Tyler Noseworthy, who each chipped in one.

The FireAntz forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and six majors for 114 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 48.0 minutes per game Fayetteville had been spending in the box. The 41 shots that the FireAntz put on net surpassed Fayetteville's average of 28.5 shots per game this season.

The FireAntz were led by Chris Greene, who took seven shots.

Strang rejected 36 shots on goal for the Thunder. Bloomington registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Thunder, Dennis Sicard, Kyle Watson, and Strang were ejected from the contest. Dan Dunn made 20 saves for Fayetteville on 24 shots. The FireAntz registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Brandon Richardson, Aaron McGill, Kyle McNeil, Dan Dunn, and Tom Janosz were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
