Columbus erases deficit to stun Huntsville, 6-5

Undaunted by a four-goal deficit, the Columbus Cottonmouths battled back to claim a 6-5 victory over the Huntsville Havoc.

Columbus never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Cottonmouths trailed 4-0 after a goal by Huntsville's Brandon Perry at 13:50 in the first period. Columbus knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Jordan Draper at 17:34 in the third period. The Cottonmouths scored the game winner on the power play at 19:16 in the third period on a goal by Draper.

Columbus got the win thanks to a great game by Tory Allan, who had two goals and two assists. Allan scored the first of his two goals at 2:27 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Huntsville. Ian McNulty assisted on the tally. Allan's next tally made the score 4-4 with 4:47 left in the second period. The Cottonmouths had gained a power play chance when Scott Harff was whistled for cross checking. Levi Lind provided the assist.

Columbus excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Cottonmouths' goal total was higher than their season average. Columbus averages 3.3 goals per game. The Cottonmouths put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.8 they average per game.

Columbus also got points from Lind, who also had two goals and one assist. In addition, Columbus received assists from Tom Maldonado, who had two and Matt Gingera and Dan Bremner, who contributed one a piece.

The Havoc's offense rang up 35 shots on Columbus' net. Huntsville's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Cottonmouths' power play unit.

Huntsville additionally got points from Justin Fox, who also registered one goal and one assist. Josh Harris also scored for Huntsville. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Sam Cannata, Dominic Osman, and Matt Singleton, who each chipped in one and Mike Gurtler and Corey Bellamy, who contributed two a piece.

Columbus' Travis Bosch stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Cottonmouths incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Jesse Kallechy recorded 26 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
