Bloomington falls to Peoria after surprising comeback

The Bloomington Thunder could not hold down the Peoria Rivermen, and Rivermen erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 7-6 win.

Peoria let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Rivermen took a 4-3 advantage on a power play goal by Nick Prockow at 15:35 in the second period. Peoria found itself down 6-4 after Bloomington's Daniel Barczuk put the puck home at 2:47 in the third period. After evening things up at 6-6 on a goal by Prockow at 10:49 in the third, the Rivermen got the game-winner from Garrett Vermeersch at 19:56 in the third period.

Peoria forced the Thunder goalie BJ OBrien to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Rivermen capitalized on Bloomington's penalties, netting four goals while skating with a man advantage.

Peoria also got points from Tyler Fernandez, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Cole Ruwe, Parker Stanfield, Charlie Carkin, Tyler Amburgey, Phil Cook, Ryan Raven, and Nick Wheeler, who each chipped in one and Jarrett Rush and Joe Schiller, who contributed two a piece.

By firing 30 shots on goal, the Thunder exceeded the 24.5 shots they average per game this year. Bloomington surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Thunder average 3.5 goals per game. Bloomington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Thunder were helped by Tyler Noseworthy, who tallied two goals. Noseworthy scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:49 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Bloomington. A tripping penalty on Rush had put Bloomington on the power play. Kevin Walrod picked up the assist. Noseworthy's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Bloomington with 18:49 left in the third period. Ron Cramer provided the assist. Bloomington additionally got points from Cramer, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Paul DAgostino, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Bloomington came via Travis Granbois, Eddie Olyzck, and Darick Ste-Marie, who each chipped in two.

Peoria's starting goalie, Russ Stein, made 20 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Cook, who stopped four shots. The Rivermen incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. OBrien rejected 28 shots on goal for the Thunder. Bloomington registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
