Huge game by Caveney boosts Pensacola over Mississippi Surge, 5-1

Joe Caveney had two goals and two assists to lead the Pensacola Ice Flyers to a 5-1 victory over Mississippi Surge.

Caveney scored at 13:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola and again while 34 seconds into the third to make the score 4-1 Pensacola.

Pensacola was led by goalie Peter Di Salvo, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. Di Salvo certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.64 entering the contest.

The Ice Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi Surge to score on any of its five power plays. By firing 42 shots on goal, Pensacola exceeded the 37.0 shots it averages per game this year.

Pensacola also got points from Mitchell Good, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Pensacola also got a goal from Drew Baker as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Paul Rodrigues, who had four and Justin Alonzo and Joshua Turnbull, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi Surge put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.5 it averages per game.

Mississippi Surge was led by Chapen LeBlond, who scored the team's only goal. LeBlond scored eight seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Pensacola. Kyle Fletcher assisted on the tally.

The Ice Flyers totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Mississippi Surge's Mathieu Dugas stopped 37 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Mississippi Surge ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
