Louisiana uses early goal to top Mississippi RiverKings, 2-0

The Louisiana IceGators took the lead against Mississippi RiverKings in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-0 victory.

Louisiana took over the lead for good with a goal by Jeff Grant at 17:42 in the first period. The IceGators had taken the advantage when Mississippi RiverKings' Tyler Melancon got sent off for hooking. Jake Trask assisted on the tally.

Louisiana was led by Grant, who registered one goal.

The IceGators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Louisiana's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 12 shots between them.

Jason Cohen also scored for Louisiana. More assists for Louisiana came via Josh Duplantis, Jeremey Boyer, and Adam Stuart, who contributed one a piece.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Devin Mantha, who took four shots.

Kiefer Smiley made 22 saves for the IceGators on 22 shots. Louisiana totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Dan McWhinney rejected 27 shots on goal for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
